Abstract:
The Legislative Council of Sri Lanka (formerly Ceylon) passed the Education Ordinance No. 1 of 1920, which introduced the establishment of government schools. The ordinance was later amended by the Education Ordinance No. 17 of 1939, which paved the way for major educational reforms. The Education Ordinance No. 31 of 1939 is the current law regarding the right to education in Sri Lanka.
